WHAT A PLATE FILTER PRESS LOOKS LIKE

In this article, we have seen what plate filter presses are and what they are used for. Now we want to analyse what they look like from a construction point of view.

WHAT DOES A FILTER PRESS LOOK LIKE?

The main elements that characterise a plate filter press are common to all machine versions and all degrees of automation that are required.

These basic constituents are always (in 99% of cases):

A frame, consisting of a moving head, a fixed head and a jack head

Filter plates (we will see the various types later)

A hydraulic cylinder to move (close and open) the filter plates

A hydraulic power pack to supply motion to the hydraulic cylinder

A pump to feed the sludge inside the filter press (Autemi also supplies the pump specially designed to guarantee maximum efficiency).

Then, as we have already mentioned, there are a series of more or less standard optional extras that can be provided depending on the type of process in which the machine will be installed and the degree of automation required by the customer.

These optional extras can also be installed or not, depending on the order of magnitude of the investment to be made.

Other main components can then be identified, such as example

  • An electrical panel with PLC and HMI (for controlling and managing the filter press cycles)
  • A pneumatic panel (for housing the pneumatic process valves)
  • A series of valves mounted on both the inlet and outlet piping depending on the type of process
  • Fixed safety guards
  • Movable safety guards or light curtains (to allow the operator to work on the machine safely)
  • The filter plate opening system (commonly called plate-shifting)
  • The slamming system (or shaking of the filter plates)
  • An automatic drip tray (also called Drip-Tray)
